The Bible is our sole source of doctrine.
We believe that the Holy Bible was written by men who were supernaturally inspired by God. This inspired Book is absolute truth without any error and is the only compete and final revelation of the will and mind of God to man. It constitutes the supreme standard by which all human opinion should be tried. II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:19-2
We believe there is only one living and true God. God is an eternal, infinite, and intelligent being Who created all things, heavenly and earthly and Who sovereignly rules over it all. This one God exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Psalm 84:18; Psalm 90:2; Romans 11:33-36
We believe the Lord Jesus Christ, known as both the Son of God and God the Son, has existed eternally with both God the Father and the Holy Spirit. For the purpose of redeeming sinful humanity, Jesus came to earth supernaturally, conceived by the Holy Spirit through a virgin birth. As God incarnate, He lived a perfect life and subsequently gave His life to die as a perfect sin substitute for all humanity. He died and was buried, but in absolute triumph over sin and death, He arose from the grave after being dead for three days. He now resides in heaven, where he intercedes for His own. Matthew 1:20-26; I Corinthians 15:1-4; Hebrews 9:24; Hebrews 10:12
We believe that the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, shares equal Deity with the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit convicts humanity of sin, righteousness, and judgment to come. In addition, He guides, teaches, empowers, and sanctifies believers in Jesus. John 3:5-6; John 14:16, 17, 26; Romans 8:14-16
We believe in the literal Genesis account of Creation, meaning that the six days of creation were literal days and that a fully-functioning universe was created in that time frame. We also believe that God created the human race as male and female. Genesis 1; Romans 1:20
We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God, but we have rebelled against God and thus are alienated from God with no possible means of recovery in our own strength. Romans 3:10, 23
We believe that because of sin, its results, and the character of God, all of mankind needs salvation. This salvation was totally and sufficiently provided for all mankind through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is, however, only applied to those who believe and accept the person and work of Christ. John 3:16; John 10:27-28; I Corinthians 15:1-4; Ephesians 2:8-10
We believe that there is a broader category of the church at large, known as “the body of Christ;” however, the major focus of the New Testament is on the local church. The local church is a congregation of people who have received God’s salvation, have been baptized by immersion subsequent to salvation, and who subscribe to the basic doctrinal statement of Community Baptist Church.
The church is to administer two ordinances: baptism and the Lord’s Supper. These ordinances are emblematic and reminders of what Jesus has done for for us. They are not sacraments (means of salvation). Acts 2:41-42; I Corinthians 11:23-28; Ephesians 4:11-16
We believe that at the time of death, a born-again believer’s spiritual being passes instantly into the presence of Christ in heaven. Unbelievers pass instantly into the torments of hell.
The timeline of end-time events will begin with the “rapture of the church,” where Christ will come in the clouds and catch up all those who have accepted Him as their savior, both dead and living. Immediately following this, the judgment of God will be poured out on an unbelieving world for seven years. Christ will then reign on earth for 1,000 years, followed by the Great White Throne judgment for all who did not receive God’s gift of eternal salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. They will be cast into the Lake of Fire for eternity. This earth will be destroyed, and God will create a new heaven and a new earth, where Christ will forever be King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Daniel 7-12; Revelation 4-21; I Thessalonians 4:13-18
